Reflections: SQL Saturday 452 (Charlotte BI Edition)

This past weekend, I drove up to Charlotte, NC to attend what has become one of my favorite SQL Saturdays on the east coast. The folks at CBIG (the local SQL Server Business Intelligence user group) are always super-enthusiastic and have done a fantastic job growing this event into what it is today. image

The quality of sessions I attended were superb and I’ve already started putting some of the newly acquired knowledge into practice. However, one thing that stood out to me as odd (in a good kinda way) was the number of performance monitoring related sessions…

It warms my heart to see this kind of attention being paid to performance monitoring especially in the data warehouse and business intelligence space – an area where performance monitoring is often overlooked due to the constant push from the “business”-side to move forward, add new features, etc. Sometimes stabilizing is important, even though the ROI is harder to see!

Finally, I just wanted to thank the folks again who attended my session. The feedback was incredibly helpful and I’m making some key adjustments to the demo before heading to Seattle next week for PASS Summit where I’ll be delivering the extended version of this session to a crowd of crazy technical SSAS maniacs – its going to be awesome!

Thank You!
